Winfield, Illinois. October 2010.

I like the lights at night and I enjoy seeing what the do to film.  I would have a difficult time getting the same results in the darkroom as I am getting here with Photoshop..... ahhhh but I would so love to get back into a color darkroom.  I just love the whole process.  You really get a lot more time with your images and I always thought you learned more about how you photograph by working in the darkroom.
Anyway, I digress; these are the last images that I have scanned right now.  I have a roll in to be picked up and one to be dropped off and I hope to go out once more this week.

The Burbs

For some reason I seem to avoid people in my work.  I am not sure why.  There is no better time to photograph the suburbs than at night... especially if you are trying to avoid people.  I think the images become much more interesting with the different temperature lights that you encounter at night.  The lights are a distinctive characteristic of the suburbs and the city.  They just seem to make the structures come alive.  Good stuff.

After Work

I get out of work and take a walk around.
There is something about making photographs at night.  The lights are amazing, the solitude is wonderful and everything photographs different than it would during the day.
I am exploring our habitat; our environment.  It is about the places that we live, work, play and use to sustain our existence.  I think it is important to look at how we process and utilize a place or space.

3 New Looks

Things have gotten a little too noisy so I started making more pictures.  Here are three new things from out there in the world.  Its all part of the same project; each represents a different aspect of the whole.  There is a lot more on the way.

Night
Lately, past week or so; I have been going out to photograph at night after I get out of work.  I have done a bit of night photography before and felt fairly successful with it.  Maybe it comes in phases maybe it becomes something bigger, either way it is a lot of fun and always interesting outcomes.

Mounds
When farm land is developed there will be some displacement of earth.  This material is piled up in various locations throughout the development.

I am using an old box camera and a roll of Fuji 800Z 220 film.  I sealed up the counter window and have no idea where a frame begins nor ends.  It has been interesting to see what comes out.

Evidence of Process

Land goes through different phases of use.
When farmland gets processed into a neighborhood one of the initial steps taken is to strip the topsoil and pile it up into mounds.
The process is the art.

Its been a while since I have used 35mm film.  The rectangle takes a little getting used to again.
